Birmingham Interconnect
A blueprint for the journey experience

Interconnect is an integrated pedestrian wayfinding and transport information system. It delivers an innovative research-led approach, focused on improving journey experiences for residents and visitors of the West Midlands.

Its key objectives are to address the need for enhanced information provision for a rapidly growing demographic and to encourage transport ridership, walking, and cycling as preferred modal choices. By encouraging changes in behaviour, Interconnect aims to help reanimate public spaces and deliver social, economic, and environmental benefits.

  • The program seeks to enhance peoples’ experience of places, reveal movement networks and empower people to make informed journey choices. Interconnect brings together local and regional authorities, transport providers, tourism agencies and other partners to work in collaboration, making coordinated improvements that maximise the benefits for all residents, visitors, and businesses.

The design and development of Interconnect is underpinned by a compelling and robust strategy that in turn is supported by rigorous research, project planning, and ongoing design management to ensure the project can be successfully delivered and sustained.
